Vision and Mission of Knysna Christian School
Our school started in 2000 with six pupils in the
Sunday school rooms of a church. Our mission is to provide Christ centred
education of an international standard, equipping our students for life. In
accordance with our creed, we open our doors to learners with different needs.
We endeavour to mold them into well-balanced citizens aided by individualized
learning, acceleration at own pace and underlying eternal values.
We have been in our current building for five years and currently have 40
students in our school.
Reaching out to the community is an important part of our ethos. In 2005, our school started Sinetemba Preschool in Kayalethu, and provided all furniture, teaching materials and a teacher for two years.
Every year we have a Generosity Day. This year we gathered food and clothes to assist Child Welfare during the Xenophobic attacks.
Our school is also a registered ECO school and we regularly undertake
projects to care for the environment. Last year we won the SANParks Competition
with our poster of Knysna National Park and its bio diversity. That is the
second time we won a SANParks competition. Ten of the senior class went for a
free weekend to the Wilderness National Park.
We also care for our town by doing community service like the cleanup of the
walkway next to the Knysna Lagoon. .
We have sport and cultural activities at our school like swimming, athletics, archery, chess and an end of the year play.
Our vision is to combine our school with a Community Centre. We have identified a piece of land where a big enough school for 120 students with facilities for the public like an internet café, coffee shop, youth centre, skate park, swimming pool and library could be expected.
This highly individualized system ensures that every student receives individual assistance with his academic needs from his Supervisor.
The Supervisors are well trained professionals assisting each student individually while maintaining high academic standards. Their Christian ethos leads them to be worthy examples for their students, both in character and work ethics. Goal setting and character building lie at the core of Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.), while many rewards are an incentive for excellence, e.g. merit shop, free tuck shop, fieldtrips, a day off, etc. Much responsibility is given to every student in setting his daily goals and completing it in the given time, equipping them for the future workplace during adulthood.
Knysna Christian School offers a balanced education including sport, cultural activities and community service as part of the curriculum. We are also a registered ECO school, instilling awareness of the delicate environment we inhabit needing our care and consideration. We especially focus on saving water as the Garden Route has been declared a water scarce region due to continuous droughts.
